Avocado Toast, Reconsidered: A Genuinely Balanced Breakfast

Classic Avocado Toast with everything seasoning and chili flakes

Somewhere around 2017, avocado toast stopped being food and became a generational argument. Let's rescue it, because underneath the memes is one of the more defensible breakfasts you can order.

The case for the avocado

An avocado is botanically a berry that behaves nutritionally like olive oil. Most of its fat is monounsaturated — the kind consistently associated with healthy cholesterol profiles in decades of research. Alongside: around 10 grams of fiber per fruit, more potassium per gram than a banana, folate, vitamin E, and lutein for eye health. Fat plus fiber is also the satiety combination — it slows digestion, which is why avocado toast holds you until lunch in a way plain toast never will.

The honest critique

Where avocado toast earns criticism is what it's missing: protein. Avocado has about 3 grams; bread adds a few more. Call it 8 to 10 grams total — a good start, not a complete meal if it's all you eat before a long morning. The fix isn't abandoning the toast; it's building around it.

Think of avocado toast as the fats-and-fiber half of breakfast. Pair it with a protein half, and the whole thing suddenly works like a meal.

How we build ours

Our Classic Avocado Toast is artisan rustic bread, house-made avocado spread, everything seasoning, chili flakes, and honey — sweet-heat on cool mornings is correct. The Bruschetta Avocado Toast swaps in marinated tomatoes, basil, and balsamic for the savory crowd. For the complete-breakfast move, pair either with a PB Cacao Dream or a protein-boosted Whatever Smoothie — toast for fat and fiber, smoothie for protein and fruit. That pairing covers every macro and still gets you out the door of 13324 E Sprague Ave, Suite 101 in five minutes.

Permission granted

Eat the toast. It was never the reason anyone couldn't buy a house, and it remains one of the easiest ways to put real fats, real fiber, and real pleasure on the same plate before 9 a.m. Some punchlines age into good advice.
